Valentine's Day eCard Virus

They say that love spreads like a virus. Virus programmers have thus taken advantage of this pure feeling and have created a virus to coincide with Valentine’s Day. F-Secure Corporation, using their latest database updates, has just detected this new virus, which the security company claims to be the first interesting virus of 2007.

The virus goes by the names of Valenavir.A and Bzub.HZ. The virus itself disguises itself as a Valentine’s Day eCard notification e-mail. Basically, when the receiver clicks on the notification link, he or she is then directed to a page that asks whether the user wishes to install a ‘fake’ Macromedia Flash Player.

Now this ‘fake’ Macromedia Player is actually a Trojan that downloads and installs another Bzub variant into the system.

In fact, just a few days ago, we had reported on another Valentine’s Day virus doing the rounds on the Internet. So if you receive a Valentine’s Day eCard from an unknown source, be sure to not open it.
