Microsoft plans a ‘critical’ Office update and ‘Important’ Windows Operating Systems’ update for the next Patch Tuesday Schedule

Microsoft Patch Tuesday Microsoft, on Thursday announced the plans of releasing two new fixes next week, as a part of its monthly Patch Tuesday updates. An update especially for Office has been rated as “critical,” and another for the Windows operating system is considered to be “important.”

As is normal with advance security bulletins, Microsoft did not reveal what vulnerabilities the patches would be working towards. This is done in order to avert hackers from taking advantage of vulnerabilities sooner than customers have a chance to download the updates.

However, thanks to the security reports attained from security companies, probable flaws that may be solved with these updates can be inferred.

On Microsoft’s degree of severity, a “critical” flaw includes those that can be exploited without any communication by the user. On the other hand, an “important” flaw requires user interaction to put a system at risk.

The month of March will see seven updates coming from Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday release bag. The Patch Tuesday initiative began in February and included fixes for two critical flaws in Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player, and five important updates addressing issues in Windows and Microsoft Office.

According to the advisory, an update to Microsoft’s Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool is also expected to be unveiled on Tuesday. In addition, one non-security related high-priority update would be released via Microsoft Update and Software Update Services as well.

Microsoft announced that a webcast highlighting the patches is slated to take place at 11AM on Wednesday, Microsoft said.
