Albert Hofmann Albert Hofmann who is very popularly known as the father of the mind-altering drug LSD passed away on Tuesday. He was 102 and passed away due to a heart attack at his home in Burg im Leimental, Switzerland.

The LSD Drug was believed to have therapeutic capabilities for patients who required psychiatric treatment. Its only after Albert Hofmann ingested this drug accidentally did he come to know about the capabilities of the drug.

“The substance which I wanted to experiment with took over me. I was filled with an overwhelming fear that I would go crazy. I was transported to a different world, a different time,” Hofmann wrote. “I produced the substance as a medicine. It’s not my fault if people abused it,” he once said.

The Drug had come to fame in around 1944, but was also banned around the 1960’s due to its misuse. The drug had been baptized by the name of acid and was sold in streets in form of capsules, tablets and liquid form as well. The drug which was supposed to be used for therapeutic properties fell into the wrong hands and the scientist’s worst fears had come true. Now that the great scientist has left on his heavenly journey, hopefully future scientists are willing to constructively and positively work on the drug in an accurate manner.
