Skull with Worms On June 26, doctors of the Sion Hospital successfully removed 400 worm cysts from the skull of Mohammed Hasseb. Today, the 21 year old man is relieved from this condition.

Mohammed Hasseb, a barber who was based in Faizabad came to Mumbai on June 15, since he could not afford to get himself treated there.

“I had severe headaches since December and my vision started blurring. However, my treatment got delayed because we could not afford Rs 40,000 the local hospitals were demanding,’ recalls Hasseb.

The lesion of multiple hydatid cysts lodged in Hasseb’s skull, measured around 12.3 cm by 11.6 x 8.5 cm in size. This condition was caused by tapeworms known as echinococus granulosus.

Doctors confirmed that they were startled by the number of worm cysts found in Hasseb’s skull, and cited this to be previously unrecorded in medical corridors.

“There were over 400 large, medium and small cysts within the skull which were attached to a vascular structure of the brain called the superior saggital sinus,’ says Dr Alok Sharma, head of neurosurgery department at the hospital who operated upon Hasseb.
