Microsoft Bing services arriving on Android-based Motorola smartphones in China

A recent announcement by Motorola reveals that the company has teamed up with Microsoft for the latter’s search and maps services on new smartphones. Yes, an alliance between the two companies will soon deploy Bing services on Motorola devices based on the Android platform.
The new partnership allows Android mobile phone owners to customize their device by choosing their own Search provider. With help from Microsoft, Motorola looks at widening the capabilities and array of services proffered presently in the market. Besides, it also seems to be paving new paths for augmented personalization.
“We believe that consumer choice is one of the most critical components to ensuring a rich and seamless client experience,” shared Christy Wyatt, corporate vice president of software and services, Motorola Mobile Devices. “Motorola and Microsoft have enjoyed a longstanding collaboration and the addition of Bing services to our Android-based smartphones in China is another important step in empowering our end-users.”
“Mobile devices continue to be a critical place for customers to access location-based services such as local search and mapping,” further mentioned Yusuf Mehdi, senior vice president of the Online Services Division at Microsoft. “We are pleased to expand our long-standing relationship with Motorola to bring powerful Bing location-based services to Motorola’s innovative new mobile devices, providing consumers with more choice and flexibility in mobile search.”
Offering users more choices on their Motorola devices powered by Android, they can now look forward to efficient search and map functions. Mobile consumers should be able to experience a pre-loaded Bing bookmark on their mobile browser as well. It will also be bundled with an advanced search widget including Bing interaction.
Starting in Q1 2010, Search and Maps capabilities via Microsoft will be initially available in China. Users can acquire it through either pre-load or over-the-air updates for devices that are already in market.
