Samsung displays new Omnia Smartphone Line-up with Windows 6.5

The mobile phone market seems to brimming with new devices. HTC, Sony, LG, Samsung, well name them and the companies already seem to have their hands full. Taking these announcements a step forward, Samsung recently made publlic the release of its new family of Omnia smartphones. The phones claim to be packed with an array of multimedia and work features.
The novel Omnia series comprises of five handsets namely the OmniaPro B7610, OmniaPro B7320, OmniaPro B7330, OmniaLite B7300, as well as the already announced Omnia II aka I8000 which will now come with an updated Windows Mobile 6.5 OS.
Among the OmniaPro portfolio, the OmniaPro B7610 offers premium features. It includes a high-resolution 3.5 inch AMOLED display and QWERTY keyboard. Both the OmniaPro B7320 and OmniaPro B7330 have been fashioned for business users. It sports a QWERTY keyboard and email/wireless internet support. The OmniaPro B7330 is expected to incorporate features like HSDPA 7.2Mps, HSUPA 2.0Mps and will be based on the Windows Mobile 6.5 platform. Finally the OmniaLite will come with a user-friendly interface and a host of other multimedia functions.
“The Omnia Series is one of Samsung’s most important lineups yet and definitively shows our leadership in the smartphones marketplace,” shared JK Shin, Executive Vice President and Head of Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Communications Division. “Samsung’s smartphone strategy is to provide both powerful multimedia features, with brighter and faster AMOLED displays, and offer efficiency and convenience at work supported by an advanced open operating system.”
Re-launching as Windows phones, the Omnia series devices will allow users to stay connected and productive while on the go. The company will be offering the Windows Mobile 6.5 platform on all Omnia Series devices after its release. Also the Omnia II, OmniaPro B7610, and OmniaPro B7320 will be updatable to 6.5.
Starting with the Omnia II, the smartphone is modeled to deliver an enhanced and convenient multimedia experience. Boasting of Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional, the phone sports the world’s largest 3.7-inch AMOLED display with crystal-clear WVGA resolution. The screen allows the phone to offer unmatched screen clarity, even in day light. As for its UI, it’s complete with larger icons and simplified navigation. Customized to offer touch-optimized usability, the interface is accompanied by the innovative TouchWiz 2.0 UI and 3D effects. The phone includes Advanced R Touch or Resistive Touch that allows quicker and more accurate response for a touch experience while also being user friendly.
Moving on to the OmniaLite, the phone has been fabricated to offer a simple and easy smartphone interface with full compatibility for multimedia, internet, and business features. Incorporated with the TouchWiz 2.0 UI and downloadable online widgets make, the user-friendly phone’s 3D multimedia player interface provides an enhanced entertainment experience. With multi-push email access, the phone also includes the Microsoft Office Suite that lets users edit and view their office documents on the move. Bundled with the Opera browser, the phone includes HSDPA & Wi-Fi connectivity as well. Multi-codec supported high-quality video, a 3-megapixel camera, and A-GPS are some other features of the phone.
As for the OmniaPro B7610, the phone packs in features that are optimized for both business and play. With separate modes for Work and Life, the phone allows users to maintain their work-life balance. Complementing balanced performance with balanced design, the phone’s hybrid Touch/QWERTY form makes it easy to use and allows users greater flexibility. The phone is also equipped with A-GPS with navigation and a 5-megapixel camera boasting of features like smile shot. The handset’s brilliant AMOLED display supports multi-codec enabled high quality video.
Next in the series is the OmniaPro B7330 that satiates both business and personal needs. Including robust messaging functions, the phone also packs in quick internet access and robust business apps. On the personal front, the phone provides a wide range of multimedia attributes like a 3-megapixel camera and FM radio. Bundled with a wide and spacious display, the phone further allows intuitive and fast navigation.
Lastly Samsung will be taking the wraps off OmniaPro B7320. Adorning a compact form factor, the phone flaunts an ergonomic QWERTY keypad. Functioning as a portable messaging center, with corporate push email support the phone allows users to carry their inbox with them wherever they go. The handset also allows users to get the most of their social networks with applications like Facebook and MySpace. It also includes instant messaging support for MSN, Google Talk and Yahoo Chat.
The new Samsung Omnia series will release later this year. Omnia II I8000 which was launched early June with Windows Mobile 6.1 will be updateable to Windows Mobile 6.5 upon the update’s availability while the OmniaPro B7610 and B7320 which were launched in late July with Windows Mobile 6.1 and will be updateable to Windows Mobile 6.5 upon the update’s availability. As for the OmniaLite and the OmniaPro B7330 phones will launch in October, 2009 with Windows Mobile 6.5.
