The missing iPhones’ mystery was more intriguing and engrossing than perhaps any Agatha Christie best seller!

However, the suspense looks close to revelation now.

China’s biggest wireless carrier, China Mobile has stated that there were 400,000 unlocked Apple iPhones operating on its network, at the end of last year, reported the Silicon Valley Insider. The iPhone has not yet been officially launched in the Chinese market.

This practically solves the mystery of the missing iPhones, as the “400,000” figure represents over 10 percent of the 3.7 million iPhones sold in 2007. Silicon Valley Insider quoted Market research firm In-Stat stating that the total is four times of what the firm had previously anticipated and that the number would help in making clear where a huge portion of the “missing” iPhones has gone.

Sometime back there were talks taking place between Apple and China Mobile on introducing the touchcreen phone in China. However, it was soon revealed that the plans were called off, though much is not known on the reasons behind the same.
