First iPhone Trojan Apple’s iPhone is in the news once again. Only thing, this time’ it’s not good news for iPhone users as security firms Symantec and F-Secure have confirmed the first Trojan. A forum called ModMyifone.com identified the malicious code.

Known as “113 prep” or “iPhone firmware 1.1.3 prep”, this malicious code was first mentioned on the above mentioned forum by users who reported that rogue software displayed the message “shoes”, soon after they visited a third-party side and installed a bogus package claiming to be the leaked firmware upgrade.

The iPhone’s first Trojan targets the /bin folder, deleting all of its contents and crippling the popular “Erica’s Utilities” package and overwriting the encryption protocol known as OpenSSH.

According to security firm Symantec, those who are affected by the Trojan should uninstall “113 prep” and then reinstall the broken applications.

As of now, no permanent damage to the iPhone has been reported. Thus, this Trojan could be a very mild one.

Orla Cox, a researcher at Symantec said, “This is technically the first Trojan horse seen for the iPhone; however, it does appear to be more of a prank than an actual threat. The impact of uninstalling the ‘Trojan’ would appear to be an unintended side effect.”

Reportedly, the site that distributed the iPhone malware has now been shut down. This means that iPhone users are unlikely to get infected in the future.

Some sites are even reporting that an 11-year old child who was playing around with XML files, accidentally created the Trojan!
