Apple iPhone In the coming year, Apple and AT&T are in the works of selling a version of the popular iPhone, which will have the ability to operate in a wireless network for surfing the web at fast speeds.

At an event at the Churchill Club in Santa Clara, Calif, whilst speaking about the forthcoming initiative, AT&T Chief Executive Randall Stephenson reaffirmed that customers can look forward to an iPhone that works on “3G” wireless networks sometime in 2008. 3G Network is the third generation of mobile phone standards and technology, essentially enabling faster data speeds.

Without revealing much about the specific availability date, all that Stephenson stated was, “You’ll have it next year.”

Infact in September, Apple head Steve Jobs had thrown light on the possibility of the coming in of a 3G iPhone, while fundamental technologies which are compatible with a fast network are becoming “more practical.”

Jobs had also mentioned that the existing generation of 3G chips drains battery power too rapidly but that new ones will in the long run overcome that problem.

At present, the iPhone works on the AT&T sluggish EDGE network in the U.S., due to which users do not enjoy quick web surfing speeds. This new faster data access feature would indeed be a very advantageous addition to the device.
