Prada has done it, so has Armani, so how could TAG Heuer be left behind!

TAG Heuer has always been synonymous to style and quality. The Swiss company’s prestigious sports watches and chronographs have been worn by much sorted celebs, from the likes of Tiger Woods, Brad Pitt, Uma Thurman to the Indian superstar Shahrukh Khan. Now the watchmaker ventures into the world of mobile phones.

TAG Heuer has teamed-up with ModeLabs Group, originator of the “Mobile On Demand” offer to introduce the mark of an exclusive international licensing agreement to design, produce and distribute mobile phones under the TAG Heuer label.

This is the very first time that a luxury watchmaker has stepped into the field of mobile phones. The devices will be exquisitely designed and developed by a team of experts that have worked with TAG Heuer in the past. The project which extends for three years will have the developers and designers create an array of completely “tailor-made” mobile phones and related accessories.

Jean-Christophe Babin, TAG Heuer CEO stated, “Thanks to this new luxury communication instrument, TAG Heuer is continuing to express its DNA, a combination of technology and design based on the same principles as the launch of its Avant-Garde Eyewear in 2002. The success of this line, already a world leader in high-end eyewear, has confirmed TAG Heuer’s potential as a global brand capable of offering contemporary, technological and timeless products in high-growth categories with strong potential such as luxury mobile phones. We believe that this second diversification will contribute to enriching the brand in terms of both image and added value.”

Stéphane Bohbot, ModeLabs Group CEO said, “Through this agreement, ModeLabs Group is confirming its mission to respond to the expectations of the most prestigious brands in the most exclusive fields, such as luxury watchmaking.” Adding, “Like the precision instruments made by the Swiss manufacturer, TAG Heuer mobile phones will feature impeccable finishing and brand-specific functions.”

The commercial launch of the first TAG Heuer mobile phone is slated for the second half of 2008. No details on the approximate pricing have been revealed yet. All the same it’s surely not going to be cheap!
