Eric Schmidt Chairman of the Executive Committee and CEO of Google Inc., Eric Schmidt has stated that the burgeoning mobile devices with advanced Web access will offer Google new opportunities for revenue from targeted advertisements.

Terming the mounting of mobile devices as one of the key technology stories of the day, Schmidt said they will bring more people around the world online and, by their nature, “are highly targetable because they are personal.”

He maintained, “We are just at the beginning of our ability to do targeted ads” that are relevant and useful to consumers, Schmidt said, speaking at an investor conference hosted by Morgan Stanley. “We know if we improve quality, revenue follows.”

In addition, Schmidt also said there’s a large opportunity for the company in monetizing online video; however, he added that it will take time for the industry to figure out the right business model.

Online video usage took off in the spring of last year and “is, if anything, accelerating” and becoming “short-form” entertainment that’s monetizable, he said.

Google’s strategy now is to get as much licensed content as it can, index that content for search and develop advertising tools, he said.
