RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8130 Phone for CDMA Networks unveiled

RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8130 Phone

The new BlackBerry Pearl 8130 has been officially announced by Research In Motion (RIM). The 8130 is the first ever smartphone for CDMA phone networks, offering support to 3G internet access over EV-DO from RIM.

Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO at Research In Motion said, “With its unique blend of functionality and design, the BlackBerry Pearl smartphone has been turning heads and winning praise from business users and consumers alike.” Adding, “The new BlackBerry Pearl 8130 builds on all the great features and aesthetic design that people love about the BlackBerry Pearl and offers an exceptional new choice for CDMA customers that are looking to upgrade their mobile phone.”

The key features of the RIM’s slim BlackBerry Pearl 8130 are:

  • Multimedia functions such as GPS with BlackBerry Maps
  • Music functionality via a 3.5mm headphone jack
  • A2DP Bluetooth
  • External microSDHC slot
  • Roxio’s music ripping and transfer software to load songs
  • Video capable 2MP camera
  • Updated visual interface
  • Advanced noise cancellation on the microphone
  • Full page view mode in the browser
  • SureType word completion
  • Upgrade to the BlackBerry e-mail client
  • Slated to hit stores across the US this November, the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 will be available in two colors, namely silver and amethyst and shall be priced at approx. $200. RIM has not given any details as to which carrier will be the first one to offer the phone via its network.
