Lenovo ThinkPad X300 Notebook

A little more than a month back, we had reported about Lenovo’s latest ThinkPad X300 that had leaked on the internet. Now things have got a little more official.

Lenovo has rolled out its highly-awaited super-slim ThinkPad X300 notebook, which is touted to be Apple’s recently launched MacBook Air’s keen rival.

The main features and specs of the Lenovo ThinkPad X300 notebook are:

  • Weight: 2.5 pounds lbs
  • Measurement: Approx. three-quarters of an inch thick
  • 13.3-inch LED backlit display
  • Removable battery
  • Built-in DVD burner
  • WiMax, WLAN and GB Ethernet connectivity along with GPS capabilities
  • 64 GB solid state drive
  • Includes Intel Centrino with vPro technology and up to 4 GB of memory
  • Choice between Windows XP and Vista
  • Speaking about the new notebook, Tom Ribble, director of ThinkPad marketing said, “This is meant for our customers that value mobility, productivity and that want a notebook that is also going to be environmentally friendly and environmentally responsible.” Adding, “This is meant to be the thinnest and lightest full-function notebook in its class.”

On the other hand, Apple’s Macbook, which was unveiled at the 2008 Macworld Expo, measures 0.76 at its thickest point. But the areas where the ThinkPad scores over the MacBook are that firstly the former includes an optical drive, which the latter does not. Also Apple’s baby has a battery which cannot be replaced, which is not the case with the X300; and finally the MacBook incorporates only a single USB port as against the three USB ports that the ThinkPad includes. And of course, the MacBook does not incorporate a DVD writer.

Pricing for the Lenovo ThinkPad X300 begins at $2,799, for a system that comes without a DVD drive or the extra wireless options beyond Wi-Fi. According to the company, X300 should be available for sale right away through its online store as well as retail shops. However shipments from the online store will not begin instantly.

Wait…what?!?! how could a laptop that thin and small be 9 lb??????

Another Apple product “killer” - yeah, right! Like Zune (and many others) killed iPod, and the growing number of iPhone clones have “killed” iPhone?

Let’s see now… 9 pds. of a clunky, typically ugly IBM-style clone vs. 3 pds. of sculptured, sleek, and lovely design of the Air, a “choice” between one slow, clunky, crash-prone insecure, bloated OS (XP) or an even worse one (Vista) against the fast, elegant, stable, and far cooler Apple OS,the idea that more USB ports or a are going to somehow n optical drive or replaceable battery are somehow going to offset the above major defects… you have to help me with this - this is a HARD one…

Hah-hah, just kidding! Looks like Air wins handily, just as the sleek racehorse beats the decrepit barnyard plow-horse - no contest!

What the Lenovo and related PC-clones always miss is that Apple is simply the hands-down better OS - always has been. They are also light-years ahead of you in design, functionality, and features.

As usual, they are out if front - not following, like you duds, with your pathetic “Apple killers”. Air is the machine of the future, that will move us into Web-based, paperless and even CD-less computing - it isn’t about USB ports and other already dated dreck! (Though if you really feel that you want or need that stuff, there ARE mini-hubs that convert one port into 4!)

This is about a whole new paradigm - but of course, corporate “in the box” types like you will never get “out of the box” thinking no matter how many times you parrot the phrase, because you’re just corporate drones, buzzing around and doing group-think “studies” and meetings, and office politics and kissing backsides.

Now, despite years of propaganda efforts, people are discovering that they have been bamboozled and hoodwinked for years by the massive marketing and BS floated by MS and its minions, and are now deserting that clunker in droves for the simplicity, stability, and pure FUN of the Apple OS and its stable of powerful, stable, secure, fast, lean, and elegant machines.

“Air killer”? In your DREAMS, Lenovo!

PS: Tell Mr. Ribble to polish his marketing techniques - that was pathetic!

Shows the editorial care taken on this web site… there’s link to another story that claims it comes in at 2.5 lbs. Still, it’s an ugly brute, and at $1,000 more than a MacBook Air, it’s going to have a limited market. No MacBook Air killer here, just marketing hype!

    4. Noone Nowhere Says:

Uhhh moron .. try comparing the price to a Mac Air with a solid state drive, then come back to Earth and realize that the X300 is cheaper that the Air, with more features including a DVDRW and a battery that you can actually swap (and use for longer than 3 hours). GOMER.

    5. Bob Abbas Says:

      FJ Taylor,

its good to have the replaceable battery on the ugly-clunky ThinkPad - we biz people requires robust and light laptop for work/traveling - yes for fun I like very much the Air. I have both!
