Lifebook B6210 and P1610 Flash-based Notebooks with Solid State Drive unveiled by Fujitsu

Fujitsu Computer Systems has just introduced two pen-enabled notebooks with solid state drives (SSDs) - the LifeBook P1610 and LifeBook B6210. In fact, this is a first for Fujitsu, who is offering these solid state drives as an option in ultra-portable computers, making the machines more durable for work in rugged applications such as health care and aviation.
The LifeBook P1610 convertible screen notebook weighs just 2.2 pounds, whereas the LifeBook B6210 touch screen notebook is a little heavier at 3.2 pounds.
Both the Fujitsu LifeBook P1610 and B6210 models are touch screen, ultra-portable notebooks. According to Fujitsu, it will continue to se4ll them with their current design of hard disk drives. The flash-memory drives come in 16GB or 32GB capacities, which offer lower power consumption, added ruggedness, high reliability and improved performance.
Thus customers will obviously have to pay a higher price for NAND flash products over the traditional spinning magnetic drives. However, they will gain a number of benefits like reduced power consumption, lower latency with data traffic, faster boot times, and reduced noise, heat and weight.
The LifeBook P1610 convertible notebook offers full PC functionality and sports an 8.9-inch indoor/outdoor touch screen. It has been designed keeping in mind the on-the-go professionals who require the flexibility of a tablet for note-taking or navigating through forms-based applications, along with the traditional keyboard input of a notebook computer.
The LifeBook B6210 notebook is equipped with a much larger 12.1-inch XGA-display that offers the flexibility of touch screen input and the productivity of a notebook computer.
The Fujitsu LifeBook P1610 and the LifeBook B6210 notebooks will carry a price of $500 and $1300 respectively.
