IMs Are The Preferred Choice

On Tuesday, Apple Computer Inc., finally lifted the veil of the MacBook that was expected to arrive last week itself. The MacBook is planned to replace both the iBook line and 12-inch PowerBook. The launch completes Apple’s laptop evolution to Intel processors.

The MacBook is incorporated with an Intel Core Duo processor running at either 1.83 GHz or 2.0 GHz and 13-inch widescreen display. With the update to Intel processors, Apple said the new models are up to five times faster than their predecessors.

Like the MacBook Pros, the entry-level portables will also include an integrated iSight video camera and Front Row with Apple Remote. Also included are DVI output with dual display support, a sudden motion sensor to guard the hard drive, and a TrackPad and MagSafe Power Adapter.

An in-built Ethernet and Wireless-G networking will also be included, along with Bluetooth capability. Each unit will also ship with one Firewire 400 and 2 USB 2.0 ports as well.

“Apple began the transition to Intel Core Duo-based notebooks in February with the 15-inch MacBook Pro, and now just 90 days later we have completed the transition with the release of the all new MacBook,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, in a statement.

He added, “The complete MacBook lineup leads the industry with Apple’s trademark innovative design and advanced mobile features — from top to bottom it is the best notebook line that we have ever offered.”

Apple will also offer the customer a choice of either black or white casing, similar to its iPod. The MacBook is also some 20 percent thinner than the iBook at a thickness of about one inch.

The 1.83GHz MacBook model will retail for $1,099 USD, while the 2.0GHz model would retail for $1,299 USD. Apple said that with the MacBook’s release, the speeds of the MacBook Pros would be increased as well. The $2,499 USD model will ship with a 2.16 GHz processor, up from 2.0 GHz, and the $1,999 USD model now includes a 2.0 GHz processor, up from 1.83 GHz.

All new MacBooks will begin shipping immediately from both Apple’s online store and its retail locations, as well as through its authorised resellers.
