Google enhances the flexibility of its share feature to make it more useful within Reader. The company revealed four improvements that now give users more sharing control. Users can now also effortlessly locate other people’s publicly shared items within Reader.
With an improved ability to find and follow other people, users can now find public shared items more easily. They can subscribe to their shared items with one simple click thanks to the new people search feature that is powered by Google profiles. This feature allows users to look for people with public shared items. They can be browsed by name, location, or topic all from within Reader. Users can choose to share items with a specific group or with multiple groups. This will allow only people added by them to their sharing groups to see and comment on the shared items.
Now, users can also let others who visit their Google profile know about their interests on Reader. All they have to do is add a link to their shared items to their Google profile. Once the box marked ‘Add a link to my Google profile’ has been checked, anyone using the search feature within Reader will be able to find and follow a user’s shared items.
Users can also give their Reader shared items page a custom URL that uses their Google username. This allows other users to find them easily. This feature can be enabled from under ‘Profile URL’ on the Google profile first.
Reader users are additionally offered a feature that lets them put forth their views to an author or publisher. If they appreciate an article, they can now ‘like’ any item in Reader. With all ‘likes’ having a public status, anyone reading an item will know that it has been ‘liked’ in Reader.
The official Google blog however reveals that the ability to see and add comments to shared items is still restricted only to users included in a sharing group. So, although shared items may be public only Friends can comment on them.
