Facebook hasn’t gone back on its word to adopt the XMPP standard for its latest connection interface. More than a year after this proclamation, the company finally declared Facebook chat’s XMPP support engineered around a customized ejabber XMPP server.
Process-one claims that this new connection interface may be expected in the near future since chat.facebook.com has been equipped with the XMPP software stack. 300 million users are likely to utilize Facebook with desktop to mobile XMPP clients. The company’s adoption makes XMPP the open standard for Instant Messaging and Presence to all intents and purposes.
XMPP is speculated to become the most popular IM protocol very soon. The aforesaid protocol support leans on a special ejabber XMMP server, according to Facebook developers’ statements at their September, 2009 Edinburgh conference. The development adds to Google Talk, Live Journal and Yandex deployments.
However, Facebook hasn’t furnished details about the login and password that are required for users to connect to their interface. It is probably still early for such information to emerge.
