YouTube, the popular video sharing service may launch live streaming video functionality sometime this year. This appears to be the first confirmation of such plans.
This bit of news was confirmed by none other than YouTube’s co-founder Steve Chen when he gave an interview to Pop17’s media-savvy journalist Sarah Meyers.
“We’ll do it this year. Live video is something we’ve always wanted to do but haven’t had the resources to do it correctly. But now with Google we hope to launch something this year,” Chen said in the video.
“Live video is just something that we’ve always wanted to do. We’ve never had the resources to do it correctly,” added Chen.
YouTube which is owned by Internet giant Google will be using Google’s vast resources to launch this live streaming functionality. It will without a doubt be integrated into Google’s larger business plan.
According to a report on efluxmedia.com, the same video streaming technology could well be employed in other services such as Google Apps. It could also provide videoconferencing functionalities to companies today.
