Google Trends Logo and Amercian Idol Statistics Google has entered into the business of trend-spotting, advising people on what’s hot and what’s not! The search giant is reportedly unveiling a new feature called ‘Hot Trends’ which tracks the current top 100 fastest-rising search trends. After all, Google is not called a Search Giant for nothing!

The top-100 list will be refreshed a number of times daily. According to Google, basis data from millions of Google Web searches conducted up until an hour before each update.

‘Hot Trends’ by Google is a combination of two of Google’s existing products called Zeitgeist and Trends. Hot Trends will also offer a glimpse into users’ Web search habits.

According to ‘Hot Trends’ Software Engineer, Amit Patel, there are things happening around us all the time that we are not even aware of, and it is this gap that ‘Hot Trends’ intends to address.

However, Google Hot Trends will be different from Google Zeitgeist, in the sense that the latter is like a retrospective look at what users had on their minds, say a week or even a month or year back. On the other hand, Google Hot Trends will give a more contemporary, ‘here and now’ picture of what is on people’s minds.

Google Hot Trends will link not only to related Web sites, but also to associated Google News stories and blog searches, adding depth to this service. This new feature will also allow users to go back in time to check top-rising trends on a particular day or at a particular time.

Besides unveiling ‘Hot Trends’, Google is also revamping its ‘Trends’ service, to help users find not only the top countries or cities that searched for a particular item, but also to see how search habits differ from place to place.

Some of the top trends for today on Google Trends include the American Idol winner, Dancing with the Stars winner, and upcoming reality show ‘On the Lot’.
