Dell, AOL and Carphone Warehouse logos What happens when two big companies come together, but obvious something equally big and happening. And that’s exactly what’s taking place this time too.

Dell and AOL have announced that they have joined hands to form a partnership with UK mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse, to distribute a free Dell Inspiron laptop and wireless router to customers who sign up to AOL’s broadband service for two years.

Kicking off in September, all interested customers signing up for the AOL broadband contract will have to pay around $41 per month for a minimum of 2 years. Customers will receive a redeemable coupon for a free base model Inspiron, but also have a choice of upgrading the computer for an additional cost. The free base model includes Microsoft Vista Home Basic OS, 1GB of RAM, 80 gigs hard drive, Intel Celeron processor and Wi-Fi.

In the present day, ISPs are intently seeking new innovative ways of getting clients engaged into longer broadband deals. In fact around a week back, a laptop offering pretty much on the same lines was announced by Orange UK. Under this scheme the mobile provider has teamed up with Currys to offer £300 off any laptop if the customer is prepared to sign up to its broadband service for a minimum of 24 months. The Currys’ deal requires a £14.99 monthly subscription to Orange - its customers get a flat £300 off any laptop they opt for.
