Final Version of Thunderbird 2 Email Client released by Mozilla
On Thursday, Mozilla unveiled the final version of its open-source Thunderbird 2 email client. It is said to improve how users can organize and label their email messages. On April 10, Mozilla unveiled its near final Thunderbird RC1 Email Client. Now this final release of the email client features a number of enhancements and new features.
The new Thunderbird 2 version allows users to easily manage and organize emails with tags, advanced folder views and fast inbox and message searches. Besides, users can customize Thunderbird 2 with add-ons that match individual preferences.
According to Scott MacGregor, lead engineer for Thunderbird at Mozilla, “Thunderbird 2 has powerful new features and proven security, delivering an improved email experience to users worldwide. In Thunderbird 2, we incorporated the proven benefits of tagging to email. Tagging initially gained popularity on blogs, photo and link-sharing sites, as an intuitive way to organize online information so users could easily find desired content.”
A new feature incorporated in Mozilla’s Thunderbird 2 email client is that the search box will start displaying results as soon as the user begins typing. Specific searches can also be stored in folders.
What’s more, the Mozilla Thunderbird 2 email client can also access other Web-based email services, such as Gmail and Apple’s .Mac, using just a username and password. Also new is a feature that allows users to sort through email by history. This feature is similar to what a user can do in a traditional Web browser.
Thunderbird 2 users can also choose from hundreds of add-ons to customize the application for their needs. By integrating professional networking tools, VOIP calling, and shared address books directly into Thunderbird, users can now expand the email client into a versatile information and communications hub.
