Facebook and Parakey Logo Facebook, one of the leading social utilities on the Web has just announced that it has acquired Parakey, a start-up Internet company run by the co-founders of Mozilla Firefox.

Parakey is run by Blake Ross and Joe Hewitt. As part of this acquisition, they will be assisting Facebook’s team to work on the development of Facebook Platform as well as the company’s Web site.

According to Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook, “Blake and Joe built the Firefox Web browser and then turned to the developer community to build on top of the foundation they’d established, not unlike what we’ve done with Facebook Platform.”

“The work they’ve done with Firefox and Parakey and their approach to building products fit right in at Facebook.”

Parakey happens to be Facebook’s first acquisition. As of now, no financial terms of transaction have been released.

“Facebook Platform is finally making it easy to share experiences with friends and family over the Web, a goal Joe and I have worked toward for years. We are thrilled to join the most innovative technology company in the industry,” said Blake Ross.
