Apple announced yesterday that MGM is offering its catalog of feature films for purchase and download on the iTunes Store. iTunes customers are already able to purchase and download popular films such as “Mad Max”, “The Great Train Robbery”, “Rocky” and “Dance With The Wolves”. Besides, new titles are slated to be introduced in the weeks to come.

According to Douglas A. Lee, MGM’s executive vice president of Worldwide Digital Media, “It’s exciting to be bringing so many amazing films from our catalog to iTunes. We have an unrivaled movie Library and are looking forward to adding even more films in the future so users can take their favorite movies with them wherever they go.”

Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes commented on this saying, “More than two million movies have now been downloaded from the iTunes Store making it the world’s most popular online movie store. We’re absolutely thrilled so many legendary MGM films are joining an iTunes film catalog that now has over 500 movies.”

Some more titles from MGM’s collection of blockbuster films and classics that will be available on iTunes include “The Thomas Crown Affair”, “Ronin”, and the musical “Lilies of the Field”.

All movies that are downloaded from the iTunes store are in near-DVD quality at a resolution of 640×480 and can be viewed on a computer, fifth generation iPod or even on a widescreen TV with Apple TV.

However, Apple nor MGM has sent word regarding the prices of the newly added films.
