Windows IE7+ logo On Friday, Microsoft announced “IE7+,” in order to distinguish apart between Internet Explorer 7 on Windows XP and Vista. The special branding is created to underline the additional features IE7 will receive in Vista, including Protected Mode, parental controls, and enhanced network diagnostics.

The basic difference noted is:
• IE7+ running on Windows Vista: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0)
• IE7 running on Windows XP: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1)

According to IE team member Tony Schreiner, “There are no feature differences between IE7 and IE7+ beta 2 other than the ones I mentioned above; we have, however, fixed a bunch of bugs between the two releases.” Schreiner continued, “As always, I’d love to hear your feedback on this naming as well as the product. We’ll have more information on how to sign up for Windows Vista beta 2 with IE7+ shortly.”
