Naukri.com sued by 11-year-old Hari, for using his name inappropriately in the ad; Boy demands 1 crore compensation
Creativity sees the doors of court as Naukri.com’s latest TV advertisement has compelled an 11-year-old boy to drag the popular Indian job website to court, wherein the little boy is demanding Rs 1 crore from the company because the boy’s name has been used in bad taste.
The notice, sent by Aneesh Bhanot on behalf of his son Hari Bhanot, said that the advertisement is “totally insensitive to the name Hari.” It also charged that the advertisement has resulted in mental harassment and pain as many of Hari’s friends started jesting at him.
The ad features a boss and his employee, along with a few extras. The arrogant boss is helped by his employee for placing a pizza order. Since the person at the other end fails to understand the boss, the employee takes over and spells the boss’ name with co-related words. The name which is Hari, is spelt out as “H for Hitler, A for Arrogant, R for Rascal and I for Idiot.” The ad is a slap on the boss’ back and ends by saying that Naukri would help the employee find a new job.
Apart from seeking the forthright withdrawal of the advertisement, the notice also wanted a public apology from the web site and Rs 1 crore as damages. Failing this, the website would have to face criminal and civil proceedings, the notice said.
