Duran Duran to play Live Concert in Virtual Video-game World
Duran Duran, an extremely popular band of the 1980s is trying to repackage itself as a band fro the 21st century. And they are doing so by using a virtual reality Web site called Second Life as their first promotion.
This Wednesday, Duran Duran said that its five band members- Simon Le Bon, John Taylor, Roger Taylor, Andy Taylor and Nick Rhodes- would appear as custom-designed characters, or avatars. They will also perform a live concert on the web site in the coming weeks.
Iconic bands like U2 have turned to the Internet for everything from music sales to marketing. Duran Duran said that it was the first major band to have a large presence on Second Life.
Rhodes said Duran Duran, known which has been known for songs like “Rio”, “Hungry like the Wolf” and “Ordinary World” had experimented with music videos in the 1980s. They hope to do the same with the Internet. “Whatever you can imagine is now possible … Second Life is the future right now, offering endless possibilities for artists,” Rhodes said in a statement.
