Google Mac Blog Logo Search Engine giant Google launched a blog on Monday to keep Mac users up-to-date with what the company is doing for Mac users. In addition to the Google Mac Blog, Google has created a new site to showcase all of Google’s applications for Mac.The Google Mac Blog features helpful tips for your Mac and a list of sites that are related to all things Mac.

The google Mac Blog provides all the “ news, tips and insider stories about Macs at Google,” Google said in its blog. Google’s support of the Mac and its OS X operating environment is part of its often-stated mission “to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful,” the company said. The Mac, experts say, accounts for less than 4 percent of the computer market in the United States.

Google, however, may have taken at least some pleasure in hiring a Mac engineering team who would be building software for a Microsoft Windows competitor. Microsoft and Google are intense rivals in the online advertising market.

A post from technical writer Scott Knaster and Mac product manager Rose Yao gives some insight as to the purpose of the blog. Reiterating Google’s mission statement of making the world’s information universally accessible, they write, “We’re pretty serious about that mission, including the ‘universally accessible’ part. It means making products that everyone can use including Mac users.”

The duo note engineering efforts such as Dashboard widgets to check Gmail accounts, ways to upload photos to Picasa Web albums, Safari support for Google Calendar, Mac support for Google Video and a Mac version of Google Earth.
