A worm on a Google pageJust a few days back, Google accidentally sent a worm virus to 50000 of its Google Video Blog group subscribers via a mass email. Though Google regrets its mistake and has apologized to those affected, the users at the other end may have ended up loosing files.

The worm virus, W32/Kasper.A@mmvirus, more commonly know as Kama Sutra, was sent out by one of its video team members. Having realized the error, Google immediately released the following through a written statement:

“On Tuesday evening, three posts were made to the Google Video Blog-group that should not have been posted…This has now been addressed and fixed. Still, some of these posts may have contained a virus called W32/Kapser.A@mm - a mass mailing worm. If you think you have downloaded this virus from the group or an email message, we recommend you run your antivirus program to remove it.”

The company linked to the free Norton AntiVirus software from the Google pack for those affected that don’t have their ant-virus software. According to Google spokesperson Gabriel Stricker, protocols have been put into place to ensure that such a breach won’t happen again. Though Google has promised to execute procedures to avoid this happening again, they failed to reveal how the mistake happened in the first place.

If you think you are one of the unlucky ones who has been affected, visit http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_installer.html?nopers to install appropriate ant-viral software.
