Walt Disney Co. is planning to make free TV shows available for download over the Internet. Popular shows like “Desperate Houswives” and “Lost” maybe made available for download for free in an attempt to bring in new advertising revenues, the Wall Street Journal said on Monday.

Walt Disney is likely to announce it later on Monday by Anne Sweeney, president of the Disney-ABC Television Group, the newspaper reported.

TV Episodes of the ABC shows will include advertisements that viewers will not be able to skip, which Disney hopes will turn the delivery of programs over the Web into a profit-generating business.

Wall Street Journal reported that 10 advertisers have already signed up for this free TV show download initiative, including Ford Motor Co., Procter & Gamble and Unilever.

The free episodes of the shows being offered would become available the morning after they air on TV, the Journal reported. Disney has yet to comment on this new venture.
