Google Launches Its Free Online Service Called “Google Base, a free online service where users can put in their various types of online and offline contents that Google will host and make searchable online has been unveiled by Google. At present Google Base is in beta, and can be availed here.

After launching Google Sitemaps, Google Print and Google Video – “Google Base is just an additional effort in which content owners can easily make their information searchable via Google.

Just like a database, “Google Base facilitates content owners to illustrate and assign features to the information they upload, and uses this meta-data to improve target search results to what the users are looking for.

Through the collection of more information about a wider range of content, “Google Base is aimed at enhancing the overall quality and reach of Google Search results.

“Google Base further gives content producers a chance to submit any kind of information, irrespective of it being or not being a web page or online. This could range from your favourite dog’s picture to a large database of exquisite art and painting, both of which may not have been accessible online previously.

As part of the early-stage beta, Google has been working with a variety of commercial and non-commercial information providers like ArtNet, CareerBuilder, Collegeboard, StepUp and World Resources Institute which is uploading links to data on sustainability issues such as climate change, human health, and resource consumption.
