Sony, Samsung and S-LCD Logo S-LCD Corporation has announced that it has begun shipping LCD panels from its 8th Generation Line. S-LCD is a joint venture by two big names in the electronics industry namely Samsung Electronics and Sony Corp.

According to S-LCD, the 8TH Generation Line of LCDs is capable of processing the world’s largest mother glass substrates measuring 2,200mm by 2500mm.

These liquid crystal display panels measuring 2.2×2.5 meters will be incorporated in both 46- and 52-inch full screen High Definition LCD televisions manufactured by Samsung and Sony.

In fact, with the previous 7G line of LCD panels, S-LCD was able to sufficiently meet the demand for 40-inch panels.

According to Chang Won-kie, CEO of S-LCD, “We have remained a step ahead of the competition in terms of production scale and timing. Our sights are now on LCD TVs in the 50-inch class and we aim to lead that segment. Our success with the 7G line will continue with the new 8G line operation, and we will grow into the world’s largest LCD maker.”

Now that S-LCD has announced the shipments of its 8G LCD panels, this marks a major turning point in the market for LCD TVs belonging to the 50-inch category.

S-LCD aims to reach its full monthly output of 50,000 8G panels by the end of 2007.
