Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo Media with ExpressCard Adaptor unveiled by Sony
Sony has announced the availability of its new Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo media card which offers data transfer up to three times faster than standard Memory Stick Pro Duo products. In fact, Sony has come out with this as a reflex action to support the growth of products that record large amounts of data like its recently unveiled HD camcorders.
The Sony Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo media card is available in 1GB, 2GB and 4Gb capacities.
A great feature about the Sony Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo media is that it has shorter data transmission time and faster recording time between hardware with an 8-bit parallel interface and the flash memory device.
With the addition of four connector pins to the Memory Stick’s traditional 4-bit parallel interface, the resulting 8-bit parallel interface provides write speeds of up to 30MB/s (240 Mbps) megabytes per second.
The new Sony Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo media can also be used with conventional 4-bit parallel interface hardware, ensuring the format’s minimum write speed of 15 megabits per second.
A Sony Memory Stick Duo ExpressCard adaptor, MSAC-EX1 is also available for use with the Sony Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo media. With this adaptor, the Sony Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo media is able to reach its potential transfer rates with personal computers that are equipped with an ExpressCard slot, such as most of Sony’s 2007 Vaio line of computers.
With the use of the ExpressCard adaptor, users can transfer one hour of personal, high-definition video (3.6GB in AVCHD SP mode) from a Sony HDR-CX7 Memory Stick Handycam camcorder to a compatible computer in about two minutes.
The 1GB capacity MS-EX1G Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo media is priced at $60, the 2GB capacity is around $90 and the 4GB capacity is priced at $150. The Sony MSAC-EX1 Memory Stick Duo ExpressCard Adaptor will cost $80.
