Sharp Logo Japanese consumer electronics maker Sharp has announced plans to launch a Blu-ray high-definition DVD recorder with a 1 Terabyte hard disk drive (HDD). This happens to be the world’s largest storage capacity on any Blu-ray recorder.

This 1TB Blu-ray model will be capable of recording 127 hours of digital high-definition programs.

The Sharp 1TB Blu-ray model will go on sale in the Japanese market in December 2007. It will be available for around 300,000 yen (approx. $2600).

In addition to this high-end model, Osaka-based Sharp also has plans to introduce eight new Blu-ray recorder models by 2007 end in Japan.

This is being done in an effort to replace video cassette recorders and conventional DVD machines.

This 1TB Blu-ray DVD recorder from Sharp will push this format one notch above rival HD-DVD in the ongoing war of the formats.

Sharp said that it has no immediate plans to introduce these Blu-ray DVD recorders in overseas markets any time soon.
