Sharp develops Super-thin and Light-weight LCD TV

Japanese consumer electronics company Sharp Corp. has announced that it has developed a prototype next-generation LCD television that is much thinner and lighter than conventional models.
Besides that, the company also claims that this LCD TV is the most power-efficient ever.
The 52-inch Liquid Crystal Display prototype is just over an inch thick. In fact, it is exactly 2 cm thick, compared to current models which measure 8 cm thick.
It weighs 55 pounds (25kgs) and consumes less energy than today’s LCD or plasma sets.
Besides, the new LCD TV from Sharp features image contrast 30 times better than those of conventional models, providing enhanced picture quality.
Sharp has even demonstrated how the new LCD panels could easily be hung on walls or placed on thin poles, lending a floating effect.
Katayama also said that he hoped to have the innovations ready for mass commercial production by the time a new Sharp plant is running by March 2010.
As of now, no details or pricing of the world’s thinnest and lightest LCD TV from Sharp have been released as yet.
