Samsung logo Samsung Electronics has introduced a new and powerful optical disc drive called TruDirect SE-S204S. This external drive allows users to create DVDs and burn digital content via a PC sans the need for a hard drive from nearly any device in real-time.

It is known that camcorder and digital camera sales have been booming and around 100 million units are expected to be sold in 2008.

With the help of the Samsung TruDirect SE-S204S, users will be able to create DVDs in record time by connecting a digital device like a camcorder, digital camera or even a Web cam to a PC or notebook.

The Samsung TruDirect SE-S204S optical drive, which does not require a hard drive, drastically reduces the time it takes to create DVDs as there is no need for pre-mastering, multiplexes or hard-disk buffering. Thus, real-time, fast and simple recording of personal videos, photos and data files onto DVD discs is very much possible using Samsung’s latest offering.

So speedy is the TruDirect SE-S204S drive that it only takes an hour and five minutes to create a DVD of one-hour video stream, while creating a DVD from a one-hour hard drive camcorder just takes around 30 minutes.

Besides creating DVDs in no time, the Samsung TruDirect SE-S204S optical drive also offers some of the fastest speeds of an optical disc drive available in the market today. The SE-S204S optical drive features 20X DVD+R and DVD-R writing, 16X DVD+R Dual Layer writing, 12X DVD-R Dual Layer writing and 12X DVD-RAM writing.

According to Richard Aguilera, western regional sales manager, Samsung Storage Division, “As a global technology innovator, Samsung has always been at the forefront of optical disc drive technology and further pushes the technology envelope with the introduction of the new TruDirect SE-S204S. The TruDirect SE-S204S enables users to easily and efficiently turn their digital videos or photos into DVDs in the easiest and fastest way ever.”

The Samsung TruDirect SE-S204S optical drive has already begun shipping and will soon be available for a price of $159.99.
