First Quad-Core Storage Server SSR212MC2 introduced by Intel

Intel Storage Server SSR212MC2 and Intel Logo Intel has just announced the Intel Storage Server SSR212MC2. Intel’s latest offering is the first 2U, 12 drive, integrated quad-core storage server and has been powered by the quad-core Intel Xeon processor 5300 series.

The Intel Storage Server SSR212MC2 is a rack mountable server that can be configured as a broad range of enterprise and small business storage solutions such as Network-Attached Storage (NAS), Storage Area Network (SAN) and application servers.

The Intel Storage Server SSR212MC2 provides users with an option of including one or two Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5100 series processors, as well as a choice of enterprise-class Serial-Attached SCSI (SAS) or high capacity Serial ATA (SATA) hard drives.

The Intel Storage Server SSR212MC2 uses Xyratex’s 2U chassis which delivers industry-leading power, package and cooling technology to the top Original Equipment Manufacturers worldwide.

Intel is currently working with independent software vendors such as Microsoft, FalconStor, Open-E, Open SuSE, RedHat and Wasabi Systems to name a few to validate and ensure solution providers that they will experience easy integration of their operating systems and /or applications with the new storage platform.

The Intel Storage Server SSR212MC2 will cost $2180 with no RAID controller, and $3600 with the Intel SRCSAS144e RAID Controller, and will be available May 2007 onwards.
