Alienware intros MJ-12 8550i and MJ-12 8550a Workstations, Ideal for Performance-Hungry Applications

Alienware, has unveiled two new robust additions to its award-winning MJ-12 desktop workstation family, called the MJ-12 8550i and MJ-12 8550a. The MJ-12 8550i is packed with the Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processors 5300 series. Alienware’s other launch – the MJ-12 8550a workstation, is equipped with the ground-breaking AMD Opteron 2000 Series. So now all creative professionals have two unbelievably powerful options for maximizing performance-per-watt efficiency and virtualization potential.
Alienware senior vice president Brian Joyce said, “The new MJ-12 8550i and MJ-12 8550a build on the foundations set by previous Alienware workstations.” Joyce added, “Both utilize mind blowing technology relied upon by everyone from NASA to game developers.”
The Alienware MJ-12 8550i is available in single and dual-processor customizations and features up to eight total processing cores and delivers 50 percent greater performance than previous-generation Intel Xeon processor-based workstations. In addition, the MJ-12 8550i and MJ-12 8550a are both integrated with up to four 15,000 RPM Serial Attached SCSI hard drives to optimise storage space and data access speed.
For memory and graphics-intensive applications, the two workstations are configurable with up to 16GB of DDR2 memory, along with advanced NVIDIA Quadro FX and ATI FireGL graphics. User convenience and comfort is stressed upon aswell, thanks to hot-swap drive bays and Alienware Acoustic Dampening.
Alienware MJ-12 8550i starts from £1,410 (inc VAT excl delivery), while Alienware MJ-12 8550a starts at £1,493 (inc VAT excl delivery).
