Intel has introduced a new storage platform called the Intel Entry Storage System SS4200x. Intel aims to ease the management of growing digital information right from protecting data in small businesses to safeguarding digital content at home.

It comes in two models- the hardware-only Intel Entry Storage System SS4200-EHW and the Intel Entry Storage System SS4200-E, which comes complete with integrated software.

The Intel Entry Storage System SS4200x is based on the Intel Celeron 400 Series Processor with DDR2 memory. It can thus provide performance and functionality to accommodate demanding workloads. Further, this storage platform features an Intel 945GZ with ICH7-R chipset for better I/O performance.

Other salient features of the Intel Entry Storage System SS4200x include the customizable and consumer-friendly shell design, which fits easily into many existing product portfolios, and an external SATA (eSATA) port that allows for easy external storage expansion beyond the four traditional hard disk drives.

The second model- the fully loaded Intel SS4200-E includes software from EMC to create a flexible Network Attached Storage (NAS) appliance for small businesses, small offices, SOHOs, and digital home markets.

As the SS4200-E storage solution comes with integrated software, it provides strong data access, sharing, protection and backup features for small businesses, while the universal plug-and-play, media streaming features and support for connected CE devices are perfect for home use. Moreover, the system supports both Windows and Mac clients and includes support for 11 languages.

The hardware-only version of the Intel Entry Storage System SS4200-EHW allows for customizable solution with various storage capacities that can reach up to several Terabytes.

Plus, the SS4200-EHW is an ideal platform for Windows Home Server, Microsoft’s new software solution to assist consumers in protecting, organizing and sharing their digital photos, music, videos and documents.

The Intel Entry Storage System SS4200-EHW and SS4200-E will be available in December 2007 at prices starting at $500.
