Western Digital has announced that it has begun shipping its 750GB Serial ATA (SATA) WD Caviar SE16 desktop hard drives. This high-capacity hard drive is perfect for data-intensive applications, high-performance computing and multimedia systems.
The WD Caviar SE16 750GB drives deliver high performance with a 3Gb/s transfer arte, 16MB cache and Native Command Queuing (NCQ).
The Caviar SE16 drive from Western Digital includes the company’s SecurePark technology which parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down and when the drive is not operating.
This feature tends to improve non-operational shock tolerance by ensuring that the recording heads never touch the disk surface. This reduces head and surface wear and even enhances long term reliability.
Also, the WD Caviar SE16 750GB hard drives use a unique technology that helps to reduce power consumption. Called IntelliSeek, this technology calculates an optimium seek speed to eliminate hasty movement of the actuator that generally produces noise and requires power.
Thus, with IntelliSeek, the actuator’s movement is controlled so the head reaches the next target sector just in time to read the next piece of information, rather than rapidly accelerating and waiting for the drive rotation to catch up. This smooth motion reduces power usage by more than 60 percent compared with standard drives, as well as quiets seek operation and lowers vibration.
Lower power leads to a reduction in heat generation, resulting in greater long-term reliability.
According to Sharad Srivastava, Sales Director, South Asia and India, Western Digital, “Uniquely, our new desktop hard drive brings together SecurePark for better shock characteristics, StableTrac for better vibration performance, and IntelliSeek to reduce power consumption. These proven features will further WD’s lead as the most reliable desktop products”
WD Caviar SE16 750GB (model number: WD7500AAKS) is available for a price of Rs.12,450 through WD’s online store or other retail stores in India.
