Electronics manufacturing firm Toshiba has filed a lawsuit against German DVD copy cat EDD Bizz GmbH accusing them of violation of DVD patents.

According to Toshiba, EDD has been producing DVD videos in Germany without seeking a licensing agreement from the Tokyo Japan-based company, which is the rightful holder of a few of the significant patents for developing DVDs.

The lawsuit which was filed in the Düsseldorf Regional Court has Toshiba asking for a monetary settlement along with a licensing agreement from EDD.

Such lawsuits are nothing new for Toshiba though as it has promised to guard its DVD technology against any and every duplicator. Around three months back, in April, Toshiba dragged to court 17 electronics companies over DVD-related patent infringements. And way back in 2002, it had slapped a lawsuit on a Taiwanese DVD drive maker in 2002, in 2005 it the same to an American importer and wholesaler of DVD-related products.
