Toshiba 1.8-inch 160GB and 80GB HDDs announced for Mobile Devices

Yesterday, Toshiba announced the commercialization of two new and advanced 1.8-inch hard disk drives (HDD). The first one is the MK1626GCB HDD that has 160GB storage capacity, while the other one is the 80GB MK8022GAA HDD.
According to Toshiba the MK1626GCB that offers a storage capacity of 160GB, happens to offer the industry’s largest storage capacity in such a small form factor. The 80GB MK8022GAA hard disk drive from Toshiba has a thin and light form factor.
Both these 1.8-inch hard disk drives have been design for mobile devices including portable media players.
The new Toshiba 160GB and 80GB hard disk drives employ and improved read-write head and an enhanced magnetic layer that boosts recording density, allowing them to achieve an areal density of 353 mega-bit per square millimeter (228 gigabits per square inches).
The 160GB MK1626GCB Hard Disk drive adopts the CE-ATA HDD interface that optimizes performance in consumer electronic applications.
Toshiba is expected to showcase its new hard disk drives at DISKON USA 2007 that is slated to take place from September 19 to 20, 2007 in California.
