Philips WOWzone Wall

From Banderas’ ‘Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over’ to the latest ‘Meet the Robinsons’ we all love watching 3D movies. And why not, it’s a whole new experience. But one thing that can get to you attimes is having the special 3D glasses on.

But here’s an answer to that.

Philips has introduced the all new WOWzone Wall, which is a screen that diagonally measures 132-inches (335.28 cm) and lets you enjoy 3D flicks without putting on those conventional 3D glasses.

Though the display size is 132-inches, the widescreen has not been placed in one piece. The electronics make has merged nine 42-inch displays on a 3×3 grid to produce a total of 132-inch display.

The WOWvx 3-D technology has been incorporated into the WOWzone 3D Wall, where the viewer’s eyes and brains are actually tricked into believing that they are watching depth within the room-sized frame. Furthermore, it makes use of a special lenticular lens apparatus mounted on top of nine displays and a digital signal processing software and hardware, which is placed behind the screen.

Philips is currently displaying the WOWzone 3D wall for the first time at the Philips booth in Hall 22 at the IFA 2007 in Berlin, Germany, which goes on till September 5th.

While each one of those nine Philips displays retails for $12,000, the entire 132-inch Philips’ WOWzone screen will be priced at around $100,000. The amount’s perhaps as big as the screen itself! But the consolation is that literally $8,000 is saved. According to Philips, the WOWzone is available today on a project basis and its public availability should be anytime in the first quarter of 2008.
