HP Red Hat-based dx2250 Desktop to be launched in Australia
Hewlett Packard, the world’s largest PC manufacturer, has announced its plans to launch a Red Hat-powered desktop computer. It has already been dubbed HP dx2250 in the Australian market.
The HP dx2250 desktop features an AMD microprocessor that is powered by Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 desktop. Alternatively, buyers can also choose from a range of HP’s processors including the AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual-core, Athlon 64 and Sempron processors.
The new Linux based HP PC will also come with a 60GB Hard drive, 1GB of memory and Windows Vista Business Edition operating system.
According to Rob Kingston, Group Manager, Product Marketing, Personal Systems Group at HP Australia, “Local businesses are constantly demanding enhancements to the price-performance delivered by their desktop PC. By working with Red Hat, HP now delivers the business-class technology of the HP dx2250 combined with an open and low-cost operating system to support the commercial objectives of small and medium businesses.”
Max McLaren, General Manager at Red Hat in Australia and New Zealand, said, “With the cost of proprietary systems continuing to rise, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Desktop minimizes acquisition and ongoing deployment costs, leaving more money and resources for other high-value projects and tasks.”
The HP dx2250 Red Hat PC will be available in Australia for a price of AU$600.
