Transcend Information Inc. is forging ahead with its latest 2 GB Fully Buffered DIMM memory module (FB-DIMM). At a mere 1.2 inches high, this small PCB is perfect for Intel’s latest chipsets (5000P/V/X), which features a dedicated FB-DIMM memory controller.

FB-DIMM technology allows greater memory capacities and higher bandwidths due to the addition of an Advanced Memory Buffer (AMB) on each DIMM board. The new FB-DIMMs communicate in serial with the memory controller (chipset), which means fewer channel pins and simultaneous read-write cycles, thus eliminating the read-to-read delay.

In addition, when compared to DDR2-400, there is a theoretical throughput increase of 300%. FB-DIMM is said to be an exceptionally cost-effective solution that combines increased memory density with faster data rates. The company said the memory modules come with a lifetime warranty, a global service network and its commitment to high quality, cost-effective and stable solutions.

The Transcend 2 GB DDR2-533/667 FB-DIMMs use 128MX4 Fine-Pitch Ball Grid Array (FBGA) chip packages with a full DIMM heat-spreader for improved electrical and heat dissipation. The company said its design results in highly stable and reliable systems, the low profile module is ideal for high-end servers and computers.

Transcend has also released the JetFlash 210 USB flash drive with fingerprint scanner. Data can be accessed or protected by swiping a finger, the scanner supports up to ten fingerprints to protect personal e-documents.

The JetFlash 210, which is available in capacities of 1 GB and 2 GB, can be used to share MP3s, photos and movies. The drives have a circular lens with inscribed capacities that glows during use. The flash drive comes preformatted as two logical drives. Shared and secured partitions mean users only need to carry a single flash drive to distribute data while protecting their privacy. The partitions can be resized with a simple repartition program available.
