Intel Core 2 Duo Logo Chipmaker Intel Corp. has reported that over the last two months, it has managed to ship five million new Core 2 Duo chipsets, its new dual-core processors. This little bit of record information was released by the company’s executives at a developers’ forum which had taken place this Monday. The new Core Duo Chipsets were first introduced in the market on July 27.

According to Intel, the demand for the Core 2 Duo chipsets has increased with the increased demands for laptop PCs. This demand is expected to continue in the fourth quarter, according to company executives. However, there are concerns over the recent recalls of such systems due to battery problems.

Intel also announced that its quad-core chips will be used in a new line of Hewlett Packard workstations, which are expected to hit the stores this November 13. These systems are expected to use Intel’s planned Xeon 5300 chips. The Hewlett Packard workstations are meant for high-end applications like visualization, digital content creation, computer-aided engineering and design and oil and gas explorations.

Intel has been on a restructuring mode, and is planning strategic changes in its product line. For example, they plan to use multiple chips in a single processor and wish to price the chips economically.
