India’s ISRO, Boeing put joint communications satellites plans on hold
The plan to jointly manufacture and market two ton class communications satellites by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Boeing Satellite Systems have been put on hold due to change in the business plans of the U.S. entity, according to a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI).
The plan, which was announced a few months ago, was to have started with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between ISRO and Boeing Satellite Systems, a subsidiary of Boeing Corp.
G. Madhavan Nair, chairman of ISRO said that Boeing are not working on small satellite business anymore. Boeing has changed their business plans. So the joint plan by Boing and ISRO is also not going forward and is on hold at this moment.
The joint plan of ISRO and Boeing idea was drawn up after the U.S. government had authorized Boeing to initiate discussions and share data with ISRO on the division of responsibilities for potential cooperation in the development and marketing of communication satellites, the report said.
India is also investing equity in the Galileo project, the satellite positioning and navigation system proposed by the European Union and the European Space Agency.
