IBM Logo IBM is launching its “self-healing software‿ which it states can help companies repair ailing IT systems before they break down.

Spinners seem to have gone over the top with the claims for IBM’s latest Tivoli’s brand of software.

IBM claims that its software can repair Internet logjams or bringing systems back online after a power outage automatically.

Of course that is assuming that there is a software problem.

Mostly the product appears to be a diagnostic tool to help IT managers find and fix bugs or any glitches or that take place in IT systems that support heavily used online applications that companies depend on.

However, that did not deter Alan Ganek, Big Blue’s chief technology officer, claiming that the era of self-healing technology had begun.

“We’re opening new doors to reducing the complexity of technology,” Ganek said.

There is something in the hype, which seems to be targeted at those non-technical IT managers out there. The software can work with mainframe and client/server architectures, which makes it more useful than previous versions.

IDC, of course, is predicting that the whole thing will lead to IT job losses, but it could all be a Red Herring.
