Google Grand Central Google has announced a new initiative which involves the Internet giant offering homeless people a free telephone number and voicemail, in an effort to help them get back on their feet.

Google in itself was conceptualized by its founders Larry and Sergey in San Francisco. Now, Google has promised to provide the above mentioned life-long services to San Francisco’s entire homeless population to assist them in getting a job and building their self-esteem on the whole.

According to Craig Walker, senior project manager at Google, the free Google services could one day be rolled out across the US, allowing every homeless person to list their own number of job applications.

This initiative is a part of the service provided by Grand Central which had been acquired by Google last year.

“We’re firm believers in the power of technology to improve the daily lives of individuals and communities as a whole, and we recognize that access to phone and voicemail services is one way to help San Francisco’s homeless stay connected with family, friends, social workers, health care providers and potential employers,” added Mr. Walker.

“While we’re excited to bring this technology to our local Bay Area community, our ultimate goal is to provide these invaluable services to cities and shelters across the country,” he added.

Craig Walker also said that Google has already distributed over 4,000 telephone numbers and voicemail accounts in San Francisco as of now.
