Microsoft acquires Komoku, a Security Solution Providing Firm
Microsoft has announced to acquire Komoku, an expert in advanced rootkit security detection solutions.
Rootkit are malicious software programs, which are designed especially for taking control of a computer’s operating system at the administrator, or root, level, where they can often hide from detection by standard anti-malware software.
Komoku has numerous major clients such as Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the U.S. Navy, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense.
This deal was completed on March 19, 2008. However no details regarding the financial terms of the deal are disclosed. As of now it is clear that a majority of the Komoku staff will join Microsoft in its Access and Security Division.
