Seagate has announced that the latest Acer notebooks that come equipped with its Seagate Momentus 5400.6 500GB hard drives are now available in India.

Lending power to the Acer TravelMate professional notebooks, the Momentus 5400.6 drives come with an areal density of 394 GB per square inch, which is supposedly the highest for any notebook hard drive announces Seagate. The drive also sports a data transfer rate of 87 MBps which is again, fastest for 5400 rpm notebook drive.

“Acer mobile PC customers want notebooks that deliver state-of-the-art capabilities to meet their needs for capacity, performance and durability,” said Campbell Kan, vice president of the Mobile Computing Business Unit at Acer. “Seagate’s new 500GB Momentus hard drive enables Acer to deliver the richest multimedia experience and on-the-go robustness available for notebook computers.”

The drive comes in 2.5” inch form and is a fourth generation drive from Seagate and employs the Perpendicular Magnetic Recording technology. The drive comes with a Serial ATA 3GB/second interface. It is available in the capacities of 500GB, 320GB, 250GB, 160GB and 120GB with 8MB of cache.

Also, as measure to provide shock and vibration proof protection, the drive comes with a G-Force Protection. It also claims to work noiselessly thanks to the Seagate’s very own SoftSonic fluid-dynamic bearing motors.
